A One-of-a-Kind Birthday Gift With Deep Meaning
One of my favorite projects to date was a recent commission from my dear friend Kelly, who lives in Hawaii. She had the most meaningful idea for a birthday gift for her mom — a custom floral painting that featured the birth month flowers of every member of their family. As someone who specializes in botanical art, I immediately fell in love with the concept.
It was such a thoughtful and symbolic way to create a piece of art that truly told a family’s story through color, bloom, and emotion.
The Inspiration: Birth Flowers for the Whole Family
Kelly and I worked closely to plan out the floral layout, making sure each family member was represented by their birth flower. The flowers included:

Daffodils for her dad

A rose for her baby girl on the way

Delphinium for one of her sisters

Marigolds for her husband and her other sister

Morning glories to represent Kelly herself
I set the entire arrangement against a charcoal Payne’s Grey background, which made all of the vivid floral colors pop in the most beautiful way. The finished piece was 60” x 60”, bold and blooming with love.
A Painting With Purpose and Personal Connection
This painting wasn’t just a gift — it was a tribute to a family’s bond. Every brushstroke felt intentional, knowing how much meaning each flower held. It’s honestly one of my favorite pieces I’ve ever created. The process reminded me how powerful art can be when it tells a story.
From One Family to the Next
After I shared the painting on TikTok, something really special happened. Another mom saw the post and reached out to commission her own family-inspired floral piece! I’ll be starting that one soon, at a 24” x 24” scale, and I can’t wait to see how her family’s story blooms on canvas too.
